National Charity Honors Elementary School
Scholarship Winners at Hollywood Event

North Hollywood, Calif. – The Children's Scholarship Fund (CSF)-a non-profit charity dedicated to increasing educational opportunities for children from low-income families by providing them with partial tuition assistance-will honor the latest scholarship recipients and their families at a luncheon on Thursday, May 11 at St. Patrick's Catholic School in North Hollywood.

"The Children's Scholarship Fund does not believe in giving families a 'hand out.' Instead we believe that we are investing in our community's and our country's future by helping these children receive the best possible education," said Darla Romfo, CSF president. "The results speak for themselves. Next Thursday, the students and their families will have the opportunity to tell all gathered how this program has empowered them to change their lives for the better-and we are proud to be a part of that story."

Among the honored attendees invited to salute this year's 41 CSF scholars at St. Patrick's are actor and musician Will Smith, a CSF advisory board member, His Eminence Roger Cardinal Mahony, archbishop of the Los Angeles diocese, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles City Council President Pro-Tempore Wendy Greuel.

The Children's Scholarship Fund has received the support and praise of many prominent Americans including former President Bill Clinton; former First Lady Barbara Bush; Martin Luther King III; former Secretary of State Colin Powell; Tom Freston, MTV Networks chairman and CEO; and Stedman Graham, chairman and CEO of S. Graham & Associates.

The Children's Scholarship Fund was founded in 1988 by John Walton and Ted Forstmann, and has helped over 70,000 children receive a private school education. More than 1,500 children in Los Angeles are currently receiving assistance. While the scholarships pay the bulk of tuition costs, CSF requires that parents pay part of the tuition in order to keep families vested in their children's education.
