This Tuesday, a group of CSF Scholars, parents, and alumni travelled to Albany with CSF President Darla Romfo to support the Education Scholarship Tax Credit, which would empower many more New York families with scholarships.
The group, including CSF alum and College of Saint Rose sophomore Kimberly Walch, CSF parents Soula Adam and Sara Libeyeme, and Sara’s children, Farida and Fawzane, met with legislators, participated in a joint budget hearing, and soaked up some history and civics lessons along the way!
“Having a CSF scholarship to attend Immaculate Conception School in the Bronx helped me to get where I am today, so testifying for the education tax credit is the least I can do to repay all the donors who invested in my future. Today I am doing something to help the students coming after me,” Kimberly told us.
You can watch video of the budget hearing online. Darla Romfo’s testimony begins around the 2 hour, 32 minute mark. Read about a POLITICO New York piece on Tuesday’s budget hearing here.
Earlier this week, the Albany Times Union published a letter to the editor from Darla arguing that the tax credit would allow CSF and other scholarship organizations to provide more scholarships for low-income children, putting them on the path to a successful future.
