Panelists discuss FSTC at CSF’s Go Teach Screening

Last Thursday evening, CSF hosted a screening of Go Teach, an independent short documentary that tells the story of Catholic education in America, followed by a panel discussion on the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC).

Guests were inspired to hear from panelists Danyela Souza Egorov, Manhattan Institute fellow and founder of Families for New York; Deacon Kevin McCormack, the Superintendent of the Catholic Schools of Brooklyn and Queens, and CSF Mom Kathia Urbina, who discussed the current educational landscape in New York City, the need for more affordable options, and the incredible potential of the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC) to open up many more educational opportunities to families in New York City and beyond.

As CSF President and CEO and moderator Darla Romfo noted during the panel discussion, the FSTC will go into effect on January 1, 2027. Under the FSTC, eligible individual taxpayers can claim a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for donations to approved K-12 scholarship granting organizations (SGOs) like Children’s Scholarship Fund and its partner programs nationwide. That means, whether you pay federal taxes through paycheck withholdings, quarterly estimates, or when you file your annual return, up to $1,700 of what you otherwise owe to the IRS could fund scholarships, making a difference in children’s lives without costing you one penny more!

We are grateful to the American Federation for Children for underwriting the event. To learn more about the Go Teach documentary and watch the trailer, please visit https://supportcatholicschools.com/.
